The first was an addition/remodel of an existing home in The Woodlands. Susan added 8’ on to the back of her clients’ two-story home and opened a series of confining walls and spaces in their family room and kitchen to create a dramatic, soaring, light filled Great Room that is now one with their spacious new kitchen and breakfast room and connects beautifully with the outdoor landscape. The new coffered ceiling and distinctive fireplace surround with large scale flanking bookcases create a dramatic focal point and add a distinct personality to the newly enlarged space that was not there before. Her clients are thoroughly enjoying their spacious new Great Room and state-of-the-art kitchen brimming with lots of additional storage and enhanced lighting. They are very happy with the end result.
The second, ongoing project is a large North Texas Ranch House retreat for a hunter and his family outside of Dallas. In this instance, Susan needed to be sensitive to and delicately combine both the informal ruggedness of a hunting lodge requested by the husband and the traditional formality of gracious living requested by the wife. Susan’s ability to merge these vastly different styles was nothing less than remarkable. Susan Fruit both designed and supervised a complete remodeling of my Master bathroom, clothes closet and dressing area. Before the remodel, these areas were outdated, unattractive and very non-functional. Though I had some idea of what I wanted, Susan had the expertise to expand those ideas and add important design elements that I would never have thought of.
